Exercise isn’t about comparing ourselves to others, it’s about understanding our own boundaries, even if those boundaries shift over time. As we age, our bodies may not recover as quickly, we might feel a little stiffer in the mornings, or hormonal changes may affect how our bodies move. But these challenges can be met with patience, mindfulness, and the right adjustments.
Warming up and stretching are essential, especially for muscles that need a bit more attention. Small changes in your routine—whether it’s adding extra minutes of mobility work, focusing on joint health, or prioritising recovery—can make all the difference. As our bodies change, so too do our mindsets and priorities.
Rather than focusing on what we can’t do, it’s important to celebrate the small victories. Maybe it’s holding a plank for an extra 30 seconds, walking that little bit extra, or just feeling more energised after a workout.
Each time we show up, we’re doing something wonderful for ourselves. So remember: every day is a chance for a new PB, no matter where you’re starting from. Your progress is yours to define. Each day is a PB, as you’ve never been this old, and you need to reconnect with yourself every day as we change.
